HAMILTON, Ohio - The Miami women's tennis team got back on track Sunday afternoon as it completed a clean sweep of Butler, 7-0, at the Riverside Raquet Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
The RedHawks took the doubles point 9-7, 8-6, 8-3, and won all six singles matches, with three needing tie-breakers to decide a winner.
Winning in straight sets for the RedHawks were the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles competitors, respectively, of junior Megan Wiegand and sophomores Remy Swain and Maura Trauernicht. Wiegand defeated Laurel Clements of Butler, 6-4 and 6-2, while Swain and Trauernicht won their matches over Butler's Annie Gantz and Shaden Dowiatt by 6-2 and 6-1, and 6-1 and 6-4 decisions, respectively.
The freshmen duo of Linda Jirouskova and Katrina Lomidze had a strong showing at No. 1 and No. singles also. Jirouskova battled Butler's Christina Laun to a tiebreaker for a 6-4, 5-7, (10-6), win. Lomidze won in straight sets but needed a tiebreaker in the second set to defeat Alaina Griffin from Butler. Also notching a singles' win for the Red and White was senior Megan Zimpfer against Tayo Bailey by a 7-6, 2-6, (10-5) count.
The win ups Miami's record to 2-2 on the season. The Red and White plays next when it hosts Dayton next weekend, Feb. 8, at the Hamilton courts.
