CINCINNATI (AP) - Danny Horace scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Miami to a 66-54 victory over Xavier on Monday. This was Horace's ninth career double-double and his second in as many games.
Chet Mason added 18 points and nine rebounds for the RedHawks (2-0), while Monty St. Clair added 10 points.
Xavier (1-1) pulled to 59-52 with 2:52 left in the game on two 3-pointers from freshman Stanley Burrell, ending a seven-minute stretch without a Musketeer field goal.
Miami built a 15-point lead in the first seven minutes of the second half with a 9-1 run.
Horace's 3-pointer and a layup by Mason helped the RedHawks to their largest lead of the first half at 36-24 with 1:11 remaining, completing a 13-3 run. Xavier ended the first half with a 3-pointer by Justin Cage to cut Miami's lead to 36-27 at the half.
Burrell led scoring for Xavier with 12 points, and Justin Doellman added 10.
Miami outrebounded Xavier 31-26 and shot 56 percent from the floor. Xavier shot just 36 percent from the field. The RedHawks again had a stellar night from beyond the arc, connecting on 8-of-13 treys (.615).
The RedHawks return to action when they play at Butler on Saturday, Nov. 27. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
