Miami Drops MAC Opener at Marshall, 7-0

The Miami University women's tennis team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener at Marshall University on Friday, losing 7-0.

In singles action, the RedHawks' No. 1 player, junior Megan Zimpfer (Centerville, OH/Centerville), went three sets, before losing to Marshall's Jessica Johnson (6-3, 4-6, 6-1). In the No. 6 flight, freshman Maura Trauernicht (Omaha, NE/Millard North) lost to Megan Skalsky (6-0, 6-3), snapping a three-match winning streak.

In doubles, the Thundering Herd swept the three matches, winning 8-1, 8-0 and 8-2. Miami's duo of Zimpfer and Ilze Meyer (Johannesburg, South Africa/Transvalia) teamed up for the first time this year to take on the Marshall's No. 13-ranked tandem of Johnson and Alice Sukner in the No. 1 flight.

Miami is now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the MAC. The RedHawks return to the courts on Monday, March 10 as they open up their Spring Trip in Boca Raton, Fla. The match is the first of three next week that also include Boston University and Florida Atlantic.
