ATHENS, Ohio-Despite Miami University's field hockey team getting on the scoreboard first by scoring a goal at 13:03 in the first half, Ohio (5-7; 3-2 MAC) netted two unanswered goals as the RedHawks (1-10; 0-5 MAC) suffered a hard-fought 2-1 loss to the Bobcats in its second Mid-American Conference game this weekend.
Freshman forward Danielle Perrecone (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) knocked in a goal off a pass from senior forward Angie Snedden (Sarnia, Ont./St. Christopher's Secondary) at 13:03 in the first half. Miami was able to stave off the Bobcats until Elizabeth Holtzman evened the score at 21:44 in the first half. Neither team was able to reach the back of the cage until Holtzman handed the Bobcats a 2-1 lead off a goal with just under 10 minutes left in the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Kerri Matthews (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) collected 10 saves in 70 minutes of action for the RedHawks, while junior back Katie Moran (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) also produced a defensive save.
Miami concludes its four-game road stretch next week at Ball State on Friday, Oct. 17 in a 3 p.m. (CT) contest and at Central Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 19 for a noon tilt.
