OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - OXFORD, Ohio -- Juby Johnson scored a game-high and season-best 23 points, going a sizzling 5-of-8 from three-point range, but it was not enough as the RedHawks fell to Kent State, 60-52.

John Edwards gave Kent State the lead and Antonio Gates hit two consecutive layups to complete a 6-0 run midway through the second half as Kent rallied to take control.

Gates finished with 21 points and Edwards 13 for Kent State (9-1, 2-0 MAC).

Miami (4-8; 2-1 MAC) led most of the first half and was ahead 23-22 at halftime. But after four ties and three lead changes, Edwards' jumper with 11:23 remaining put Kent State ahead for good, and Gates scored Kent State's next 10 points to complete a 12-3 run.

It was a record 17th consecutive regular-season Mid-American Conference win for Kent State. That surpassed the 16-game Miami strings of 1956-57 and 1958-59.
