MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Six RedHawks scored in double figures for the first time since 1990 as Miami downed Central Michigan (3-7, 0-2 MAC) in double overtime, 100-94. The win was Miami's first on the road this season and evened the RedHawks' Mid-American Conference record to 1-1.
Alex Shorts finished with 22 points for the RedHawks (4-9, 1-1 Mid-American), who shot 75 percent in the two extra periods to pull out the victory.
Central (4-9, 0-2) tied the game in regulation on a layup by David Webber, who had 44 points, with three seconds remaining.
Miami led throughout the first overtime until the Chippewas tied it in on a 3-pointer by Whitney Robinson with eight seconds to go.
But it was Shorts who sank 10-of-14 free throws, all in the second half and overtime, to seal the win for Miami. Shorts was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in the second overtime.
Juby Johnson and Doug Davis both scored 18 for Miami. Danny Horace had 11 points and led the team in rebounds with 14.
Miami coach Charlie Coles is now 7-0 all-time against his former team. Webber's 19 free throws made and 24 attempted both are Rose Arena records.
