Men's Basketball Falls To Ohio, 85-61

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Steve Esterkamp scored 21 points and Brandon Hunter added 17 as Ohio opened with an 18-3 run and went on to beat Miami 85-61 Saturday.

The Bobcats (10-4, 5-1 Mid-American Conference) shot 68 percent from the field in the first half, 19-of-28, to 29 percent, 8-of-28, for the RedHawks (7-10, 4-2) to take a 47-31 halftime lead.

Miami did go on a 10-2 run to pull to within 20-18, but the Bobcats responded with a 15-4 run and the RedHawks never threatened after that.

The Bobcats finished the game shooting 58 percent, 30-of-52, to 30 percent for Miami, 17-of-57, and Ohio outscored Miami 34-14 in the paint.

Esterkamp was 5-of-9 from the field and made 3-of-5 3-point attempts. He also made 8-of-9 foul shots.

Hunter was 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 3-point attempts. Hunter also has a game-high nine rebounds.

Sonny Johnson scored 12 points off the bench for Ohio.

Alex Shorts led Miami with 16 points. Larry Drake scored 12 and Juby Johnson added 10 points.
