RedHawks Fall at Western Michigan in Five Games

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Down 2-0 at Western Michigan, Miami University's volleyball team pulled together to knot the match 2-2 and send the contest to a deciding game. After a hard-fought fifth game, the RedHawks fell to the Broncos, 2-3.

The RedHawks dropped the first two games by close margins, 24-30 and 28-30. Miami retaliated with two 30-22 triumphs in games three and four. At one point in the fourth game, the RedHawks owned a 22-8 advantage.

In the fifth game, Miami fell behind by a 7-12 margin. The RedHawks, however, outscored the Broncos 6-1 to close the gap to 12-13. Western Michigan persevered to capture the fifth game and the match, 15-13.

Kelly McCullough paced the RedHawks with 21 kills, seven digs and a .419 hitting percentage, while Lee Ann Karr tallied 14 kills and eight digs. Jennifer Eaton put together a solid performance, notching nine kills, nine digs and six blocks (three solo, three assist). Eaton's three solo blocks ties a career-best sum. Erika Eagan posted a match best 16 digs for her 10th match in double figures for digs this season. Summer Clouse posted four kills in five attemps for a .800 hitting percentage and 56 assists and 13 digs. Susan Poll registered double figures for kills with 12.

Additionally, Miami launched 10 service aces, led by Amy Doran's three. McCullough, Eaton and Clouse amassed two apiece.

Miami (5-6, 2-3 MAC) returns to action next weekend, hosting Ohio at 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 5) and traveling to Buffalo for a 3 p.m. match next Sunday (Oct. 7).
