OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's volleyball team (4-5, 1-2 MAC) fell in three games to Ball State University (7-4, 3-0), 27-30, 13-20 and 30-32.
Despite leading the Cardinals in kills, hitting percentage and digs and tying them in blocks, two BSU service aces and four RedHawk service errors proved to be costly as Miami fell 27-30 in Game One. One of Lee Ann Karr's (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) seven kills in the first stanza pulled Miami to within one, 24-25, but that would be as close as the RedHawks could get down the stretch.
Ball State built a 22-6 lead, an advantage from which Miami could not recover, as the RedHawks dropped the second game 13-30. The Cardinals unleashed four service aces and produced a .682 hitting percentage.
In the third game, the two teams battled back and forth with no team owning more than a two-point lead throughout the first two-thirds of the stanza. Miami pulled out to a three-point lead, 27-24, but was unable to sustain, falling in the third game 30-32.
Karr paced the RedHawks with 12 kills and nine digs. Jennifer Eaton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) posted 11 kills, a .429 hitting percentage and five blocks, while Susan Poll (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Kentwood) added five blocks (two solo, three assist)
For Ball State, Julie Zylka notched 13 kills and seven blocks. Lauren Gilbert tallied 40 assists and four service aces. This was Ball State's seventh three-game win.
