Johnson has started 26 of the RedHawks' 30 games and is the team's fourth-leading scorer with a 6.5 points per game average. He also averages 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals per game. In league play, Johnson averaged 7.2 ppg.
He scored a career-high 16 points in a 73-61 win over Central Michigan and 15 points last week in a 76-72 victory against Ohio. One of his best non-conference performances came in the RedHawks' 73-64 upset at nationally ranked Notre Dame, where he had 12 points and 3 rebounds. In his last five outings, Johnson has averaged 9.8 ppg.
Johnson is the first Miami player to be named to the all-MAC Freshman team since Wally Szczerbiak and Damon Frierson captured similar honors in 1996.
The MAC also announced today that Reynolds, a point guard, was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Kent State's Demetric Shaw, a junior, was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
Miami (15-15) plays top-seeded Central Michigan (20-7) in a MAC Tournament quarterfinal at noon Thursday, March 8. The game is being played at Cleveland's Gund Arena.
