EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A three-point basket by Doug Davis with eight seconds left in regulation lifted Miami to a 57-57 tie at Evansville and placed the RedHawks in their first overtime game of the season. The Purple Aces, however, outscored the RedHawks 10-6 in overtime to capture the 67-63 win.

Miami led by as many as eight twice throughout the first half with its second eight-point advantage coming at the six-second mark off a pair of Davis free throws, which made the RedHawks a perfect 12-for-12 from the line in the first half. A layup by Evansville's Chuck Hedde with one second remaining in the half cut the RedHawk lead to six, 36-30.

Again the RedHawks extended their lead to eight in the second half, owning a 43-35 at the 13:18 mark. But an eight-point run by the Purple Aces knotted the game, 45-45. The two teams traded leads until Evansville's Adams Seitz and Clint Cuffle hit back-to-back layups to take the three-point edge, 55-52 with just under four minutes left in regulation. Miami cut the lead to one, 54-55, off two of Davis' six free throws on the night with just 46 seconds remaining. Juby Johnson fouled Seitz to send him to the line with 13 second left in hopes of getting the ball in the RedHawks' hands one last time. Seitz connected on both free throws to extend the Purple Ace lead, 57-54. Miami took the ball down the floor and Davis drilled one of his three treys on the evening with eight seconds left to tie the game, 57-57. Evansville had one last shot at winning the game in regulation, but the ball bounced in and out of the rim, giving the RedHawks new life.

Just 25 seconds into overtime, Alex Shorts committed his fifth foul and sent Dan Lytle to the line. Lytle hit one of his two free throws to take the one-point lead. Ben Helmers put the RedHawks on top by two, 60-58, off a three-point bucket, but that would be their last lead of the game as Evansville hammered out the 67-63 win in overtime.

Davis led Miami with 19 points and three assists in 45 minutes of action, while Alex Shorts added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Johnson was the other RedHawk in double figures, scoring 12 points. He also recorded five rebounds, two steals, two assists and two blocks.

Evansville was paced by Lytle's 19 points and six rebounds and Seitz's 14 points and seven rebounds.
