Eakins Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Senior diver Cassie Eakins (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) was named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week after a successful showing against Wright State Friday evening at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Eakins swept both the one- and three-meter diving events against the Raiders. She edged out fellow RedHawk Heidi Willemssen (Prior Lake, Minn./Lakeville) on both boards. Eakins finished with a score of 256.80 to Willemssen's 250.60 in the one-meter competition. Eakins defeated Willemssen on the three-meter board by a score of 267.86 to 264.90.

Eakins is looking to be the first Miami diver to win two consecutive MAC championships on both the one- and three-meter diving boards.

Eakins and the rest of the RedHawks are back in action when they host Xavier and Valparaiso at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
