Miami Falls 5-2 to North Dakota in the Bank One Badger Showdown

Miami jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 5:33 into the first period on senior defenseman Josh Mizerek's first goal of the year, assisted by freshmen Steve Hildenbrand and Matt Medvecz. Miami scored the goal on the first of just three first-period shots and was outshot 16-3 in the period.
In the second period, the fast-paced North Dakota offense quickly put the Sioux out in front with a pair of lamplighters in the first eight minutes. Junior forward Pat Leahy evened the game back up at 2-2 with his team-high eighth goal of the season. The goal, assisted by fellow linemates Dustin Whitecotton and Nick Jardine, was the trio's sixth in Miami's last four games.
North Dakota broke the 2-2 deadlock 38 seconds into the final period on Lee Goren's second goal of the night. The Sioux added two more goals over the final 20 minutes, including the third shorthanded goal vs. Miami in the last two games.
Senior goaltender Andy Marsch (1-3-1) suffered the loss for Miami, allowing all five goals in 38 shots. The loss is the RedHawks' second in a row, dropping their record to 8-6-2 overall. North Dakota is now 13-3-1. Miami takes on the loser of the Nebraska-Omaha/Wisconsin game in the consolation game at 6:05 p.m. ET Tuesday (Dec. 28).
