MOVING INTO 2012: A first-team All-Mid-American Conference defensive cornerback in 2011, Miami University junior DAYONNE NUNLEY has a career total of nine interceptions through his first two seasons. Among college football's active Division I players, Nunley is tied for 17th place in terms of total interceptions (9). Nunley is a candidate for the 2012 Jim Thorpe Award as college football's top defensive back.
2011: Started all 12 games for the RedHawks ... recorded 58 tackles, including eight for a loss ... led the team with three interceptions ... had a season-high six tackles against Toledo (Oct. 22) ... returned 16 kickoffs for Miami totaling 368 yards, with a season-long return of 72 yards against Bowling Green (Sept. 24).
2010: Enjoyed a fantastic freshman season, finishing sixth on the team in tackles with 51, including seven TFLs for -17 yards ... he and teammate Evan Harris tied for fifth in NCAA statistics with six interceptions each ... Nunley was particularly impressive in the GoDaddy.com Bowl game vs. Middle Tennessee State, earning Defensive MVP honors. He returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the third quarter. The return was his first for a score and the longest in Miami bowl history. He also returned his first-ever kickoff, galloping a Miami bowl record 38 yards ... his other five picks came at Eastern Michigan, vs. Kent State, at Central Michigan, at Bowling Green and at Akron ... Nunley had a season-best eight tackles in MU's narrow victory over KSU and seven stops vs. Temple.
HIGH SCHOOL: A three-year letter winner and a two-time captain for Gateway High School ... fellow RedHawk freshman Orne Bey and he were part of a senior class that compiled a 34-4 record and ranked first in the state and third in the nation ... a first-team all-conference and second-team all-state cornerback ... totaled 146 tackles, eight interceptions and a school-record 23 passes broken up ... prep coach was Terry Smith.
PERSONAL: Born December 10, 1991 ... son of Greg and Tomika Scales ... two cousins play for Pennsylvania's Edinboro University ... majoring in sport studies at Miami.
