Matt Passauer

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Matt Passauer was hired as a volunteer assistant coach for Miami baseball in August of 2017.

“We are very excited to be adding Matt as a new assistant coach,” said Hayden. “He brings a tremendous amount of coaching experience and success with him. He has proven to be a hard worker, a skilled teacher of the game, and a winner.”

During his time with the Bobcats, Passauer helped develop 12 all-conference players, one All-American, one GCAA Player of the Year and one GCAA Defensive Player of the Year. 2016 and 2017 saw EGSC set new school records for wins with 28 and 30, respectively. This past season, the Bobcats captured the GCAA Regular Season Championship.

Passauer spent three summers between 2014 and 2016 with the Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods League, a collegiate summer league based in the Midwest. He served as the pitching coach the first two years and was the field manager his final season with the team. During Passauer’s time there, he worked with 23 players who were later drafted and also captured two North Division Championships.

His collegiate playing days began at Duquesne in 2008, where he was part of a team that set a new school record for wins and made its first appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Passauer transferred to Maryland the following season, where he played for one year with the Terrapins before moving on to play at Lee University for his final two seasons. With the Flames, Passauer helped the team to two NAIA College World Series appearances and one conference championship, playing under Miami assistant coach Justin Dedman.

Passauer received his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from Lee University and also has a Master’s of Science in Kinesiology with a coaching education emphasis from Georgia Southern University.

“Miami University offers student-athletes an incredible opportunity for growth and development in all areas of their experience,” said Passauer. “Not only is Miami a prestigious university academically, but it has a clear commitment to athletics, which makes it a truly special place to be a part of. I’m grateful to Coach Hayden for the opportunity and ready to get after it!

“I also have to thank the administration and players at East Georgia for the opportunities they have given me during my time in Swainsboro. The players I had the fortune of working with at East Georgia made an impact on my life and my career that will never be forgotten.”
