Joe Forney enters his fourth season as the Director of Baseball and Softball Operations at Miami after being hired in September 2017.
Forney supports baseball and softball in the organization and execution of the team's travel, nutrition, events, camps, equipment, and on-campus recruiting. Additionally, he manages all external rentals for the Athletic Department.
Forney came to Oxford after spending 2016-2017 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he served as an assistant coach with the institution’s post-graduate team. Additionally, he assisted in the Academy's professional and collegiate baseball training programs.
Prior to his time at IMG Academy, Forney was a volunteer assistant coach with the Miami baseball team for the 2015-16 season, where he was responsible for instructing the Red & White’s outfielders and hitters.
Forney graduated from Xavier University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance. In his first two years with the baseball program, he learned under Hayden, who was his hitting coach with the Musketeers. During his time there, he was a standout player and student, receiving multiple awards and recognitions during his four-year career. Forney was a Presidential Academic Scholar and was a two-time Big East All-Academic Team pick. In addition, he earned the 2015 Xavier University Sedler Award for Outstanding Male Student-Athlete. On the field, Forney was a 2015 Second-Team All-Big East selection in 2015 and was named to the all-tournament team in 2014 after the Musketeers captured the Big East Tournament Championship.
During his time with the baseball and softball programs, Forney has also obtained a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology and Health and a Graduate Certificate in Sport Management from Miami.
"Miami University truly offers a unique experience for a Student-Athlete," said Forney. "The entire Athletic Department is completely devoted to the success of their Student-Athletes before, during, and after their time at Miami. I am extremely proud to represent this department in its mission to Graduate Champions."
