OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (4-1) continued the Miami/Best Western Invitational on Friday night versus Kansas City (3-2) and defeated the Roos in three sets.

Molly Creech made a strong impact on the court with the most kills (14) and digs (15) of the match, while Holland Van Deusen led all players in assists (21) and Sophia Stallworth totaled the greatest amount of blocks (three).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kansas City came out strong at the opening of the first set, as the Roos went ahead 8-4. Miami answered with an 11-1 run that was powered by seven kills from Lindy Radaszewski, Chelsea Williams and Lauren Coyne to take a 15-9 lead. The Red and White did not stop there, as four more kills and a service ace from Piper Willinger kept the Roos in check at 20-12. Two attack errors and a service error from Kansas City gave Miami its final three points to secure a 25-18 first-set win.
The Roos once again started with momentum at the start of the second set, grabbing a 3-0 lead. A service ace evened things up at four apiece. Trailing 7-6, the RedHawks used a 5-0 run to separate from the Roos at 11-7. A pair of kills from Williams and Coyne, along with a service ace from Van Deusen, stretched the score to 18-9. Stallworth finished off the Roos with two kills to give Miami a 25-17 second-set win.
Miami began the third set in control, using five kills and two attack errors from the Roos to make it 7-4. A solo block from Williams and a kill from Radaszewski forced a Kansas City timeout at 11-6. The Roos knotted things up at 15-15 and looked to pull away from Miami at 19-17, but the RedHawks stayed resilient, as Coyne smacked down two kills to tie the score once again at 20-20. The Red and White went on to take the third set 26-24 behind four kills from Creech and a powerful block from Stallworth and Raegan Lantz.

NOTES:

Miami had a .310 hitting percentage in comparison to .137 by Kansas City.
The RedHawks put down 48 kills and held the Roos to 36.
The Red and White had 59 digs versus 48 from Kansas City.
Stallworth's three blocks are the most she has produced this season.
