EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 16 Miami fell to No. 1 Northwestern Sunday, 2-0, despite several defensive stops and eight saves by goalkeeper Nicky Sjouken. Miami falls to 2-3 with the loss while Northwestern remains perfect at 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sjouken made two early saves, including one on a penalty corner, to start the first quarter.
Northwestern generated a total of six corners in the first quarter, all of which were stopped by the Miami defense.
Northwestern broke the stalemate two minutes into the second quarter, scoring unassisted.
Miami's first penalty corner opportunity came five minutes into the second quarter. Malena Sabez put a shot on goal but it was saved by Northwestern.
The Wildcats generated three more penalty corners before halftime, but a defensive stop and two saves by Sjouken fended off the Wildcats.
The RedHawks generated two early penalty corners in the third. Both resulted in saves by the Northwestern goalkeeper.
Northwestern made it a 2-0 contest five minutes later after capitalizing on a penalty corner.
Sabez took another penalty corner shot near the end of the period, but the shot was blocked.
Miami blocked a string of three corners early in the fourth. The RedHawks had three corners of their own in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to score.

MIAMI GAME NOTES:

Sabez took five shots during the game, four of which were on target.
Sloane Wearren and Julia Fernandez each took two shots.
The RedHawks generated seven penalty corners and stopped 15 of Northwestern's 16 corners.
