Nelson Leads Miami Golf to Historic MAC Championship Sweep

ZIONSVILLE, Ind.– The Miami University golf team made history today at the final round of the MAC Championship, capturing the conference title for the first time since 2015. Sophomore Liam Nelson added to the celebration by claiming individual medalist honors, a feat no RedHawk golfer had achieved since 2003. The monumental day for Miami Golf marked the first time since 1996 that the Red and White swept both the team and individual titles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nelson (70-76-71=217) capped off a stellar tournament with an even-par final-round to clinch the individual title by a single stroke, finishing at four-over-par through three rounds. After draining the winning par putt on the 18th green, Nelson shared a celebration with head coach JD Fletcher to celebrate the hard-earned victory, his third of the season.
- Cameron Pero (76-75-72=223) shot one over par in his final round, moving him up six places on the leaderboard. Pero's best round of the tournament came at the exact right time, as the senior closed out his conference career in style with a top-10 finish.
- Tyler Anderson (75-71-78=224) concluded his tournament with two birdies in the final round, finishing tied for 13th overall with a three-round total of 224.
- Brett Podobinski (75-76-74=225) started his final round with three birdies through the first five holes. He went on to shoot three-over-par on the day, lifting him one spot on the individual leaderboard to claim a top-15 finish.
- Michael Weber (80-67-79=226) shot eight-over-par in his final round today. Weber's impressive four-under-par performance in his second round proved to be the lowest score of the tournament. He finished the MAC Championships tied for 17th place.
- Entering the day one shot off of the lead, Miami finished with a team score of 880 (+28), seven strokes clear of team runner-up Northern Illinois.
2026 MAC Men's Golf Awards
- The Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship Award was awarded to senior RedHawk Michael Weber.
- The Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year Award was awarded to Miami Head Coach JD Fletcher.
- Liam Nelson took home the MAC Individual Championship and was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.
