Scalia Honored as MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND— The Mid-American Conference announced today that senior guard Amber Scalia from the Miami University women's basketball team is the conference's female Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Scalia was named the Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP after averaging 16.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist in three wins last weekend. She shot 52.9% from the floor and made 7-of-14 three pointers, helping the RedHawks to just their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. She opened the week with 14 points against Kent State and added 22 points (made five triples) in a semi-final win over Ohio. In the championship game, she scored 14 points and added four steals against Toledo.

Scalia, a native of Stillwater, Minn., is a Kinesiology major in Miami's College of Education, Health and Society.
