OXFORD, Ohio — Miami University Assistant AD for Wellness Services Jennifer Beardslee has announced that Justin Porta has been promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer. Porta joined the Miami Wellness Services staff in 2024 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.
"I'm really grateful and truly honored to step into the role of Associate Athletic Trainer and take on more responsibility and leadership within our department. I've been lucky to learn and grow alongside such a dedicated and supportive staff, and that's something I don't take for granted," said Porta. "I'm excited to keep showing up for our student-athletes, to keep learning, and to continue contributing to the University in a meaningful way. I sincerely appreciate the trust that's been placed in me, and I'm looking forward to everything this next chapter brings."
Since joining the Red and White two years ago, he has been the primary athletic trainer for women's basketball, Track/Field and Cross Country. Porta has supported these programs through direct injury evaluation, rehabilitation, return-to-play progression and healthcare coordination. He also serves as a Clinical Preceptor for athletic training students.
Porta joined the University of Redlands (Calif.) in August 2021 as an assistant athletic trainer, becoming interim head athletic trainer the following year. During his time in Redlands (2021-23), Porta was the head football athletic trainer and managed three full-time staffers along with a group of work study students. He had previously worked as a contract athletic trainer and rehabilitation aide at Rehab United Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy in San Diego (2014-15), an athletic trainer and equipment manager for San Marcos Unified School District (2015-20) and an athletic trainer with Murrieta Valley Unified School District (2020-21), all in California.
Porta is a 2009 graduate of Marietta College (Ohio), earning his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training there. He also holds a Master's in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), which he completed in 2013.
"I would like to thank David Sayler and Chauncey Winbush in supporting the Wellness Services Department to advance and promote our Certified Athletic Trainers such as Justin Porta," said Beardslee. "Justin is a highly experienced certified athletic trainer who brings diverse clinical skills and a proven track record of unselfish teamwork."
