OMAHA, Neb.– Shaun McEwen scored the first two goals of his career and (RV/RV) Miami clinched the No. 7 seed in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with a 4-2 win at Omaha Saturday in the teams' regular-season finale.
Matteo Giampa and Ilia Morozov each had a goal and an assist for the RedHawks (18-14-2, 9-13-2 NCHC), who improved by 15 regular-season wins from a year ago to match the largest non-COVID single-season jump of any Division I men's hockey program this century. Matteo Drobac stopped 21 shots from the Mavericks (12-22-0, 8-16-0 NCHC), who will be the No. 8 seed in the NCHC's postseason tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 6:00 1st (Miami 1-0) | The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead on McEwen's power-play goal at the six-minute mark. Giampa eluded a defender and set up a Ryan Smith close-range shot. Giampa, Smith and Doug Grimes were all in front of the net trying to bat home the rebound, but it was McEwen that finally knocked it past Omaha's Simon Latkoczy for the game's first goal.
- 10:12 1st (Omaha 1-1) | Omaha answered back when Samuel Huo played a pass from behind the Miami net to Marcus Nguyen, who let loose with a shot that bounced off the inside of the right goalpost and into the net to tie the game at 1.
- 10:59 1st (Miami 2-1) | Miami only needed 47 seconds to reclaim the lead. Giampa swung at the puck and scored as he was diving to the ice to make it 2-1 after a give-and-go with Morozov in space. Vladislav Lukashevich started the play behind the Miami goal before Giampa and Morozov rushed up ice and earned the second assist.
- 6:18 2nd (Omaha 2-2) | The hosts evened the score in the second period when Myles Hilman skated along the red line and successfully jammed a puck inside the near post on his second effort. Aidan de la Gorgendiere provided the assist.
- 18:21 2nd (Miami 3-2) | After a flurry of penalties on both teams, Omaha went on a power play late in the second period, but Miami turned the tables with a shorthanded goal that proved to be the game-winner. David Deputy won a race to the puck in the RedHawks' offensive zone and fed a pass to Morozov, who promptly scored on a beautiful backhand move around Latkoczy to put Miami ahead 3-2.
- 18:11 3rd (Miami 4-2) | McEwen capped the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal the length of the ice into Omaha's empty net to extend Miami's lead.
