RedHawks Shut Out Salukis 11-0 in Seven Innings

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Miami picked up its seventh win of the season in a midweek shutout over Southern Illinois on the road. Tommy Harrison led the RedHawks with four RBIs, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Miami improves to 7-1 with the win, while SIU drops to 1-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The RedHawks put up two runs in the top of the first on three hits. Carson Raether walked and a single from Dominic Krupinski put runners at the corners. Raether scored on a fielder's choice by Ryan Novak, and singles from Harrison and Marcus Dierks drove Novak home.
- Jake Tedesco started on the mound for the RedHawks and held the Salukis scoreless with one hit in the bottom of the first.
- Taylor Echols recorded three straight outs in the bottom of the second to hold the 2-0 lead.
- Harrison recorded an RBI in the top of the third to make it 3-0, hitting a double to right field after walks by Krupinski and Novak.
- Luke Ross took the mound in the bottom of the third and held Southern to just one hit.
- The RedHawks doubled their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth. Diego Cruz and Krupinski each singled and a walk by Evan Appelwick loaded the bases. Novak drove in the first run via a single and Harrison and Dierks took back-to-back walks to force in two more.
- Cameron Novak came in to pitch the bottom of the fourth for Miami and held SIU scoreless with two hits.
- Marc Iozzo took the mound in relief in the bottom of the fifth and saw three up, three down to keep it a 6-0 game.
- Two walks and an error loaded the bases with RedHawks in the sixth. Cruz took an HBP to force in Miami's seventh run of the day.
- Connor Preisel recorded three straight outs to end the sixth inning ahead by seven.
- The RedHawks took an 11-0 lead in the seventh while going through their entire batting order. Appelwick walked to start up the offense and Harrison cleared the bases with a two-run homer, his second of the year. Dierks took an HBP and advanced on a wild pitch, setting up Ryder Kirtley for an RBI single. Kirtley advanced twice and scored on a single by Raether to make it 11-0.
- Landon Fulk held the Salukis to one hit in the bottom of the seventh, enacting the run rule and securing a shutout victory for Miami.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Seven Miami pitchers held the Salukis to a total of five hits and no walks during the shutout.
- Krupinski went 2-for-4 with two runs.
- Appelwick had two runs and three walks.
- Harrison went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, two runs, and two walks.
- Dierks went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.
- Kirtley went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run.
- Cruz went 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run, and two walks.
