
D1 Baseball Names Appelwick MAC Preseason POTY

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami first baseman Evan Appelwick was named the MAC Preseason Player of the Year by D1 Baseball on Monday afternoon. He was also ranked as the nation's eighth-best first baseman ahead of opening day by the publication.
Appelwick tallied 58 starts for the RedHawks last season and hit .322 with an OPS of 1.131. The senior led the conference in home runs (21) and walks (53) last season. Appelwick also found his name atop the Miami record book in several spots last season, setting a new program record for single-season RBI with 74 and tying Miami's single-season home run record. He also scored 65 runs and had 69 hits, including 10 doubles and a triple, all while fielding .995. Appelwick was named to the All-MAC First Team at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
Appelwick and the RedHawks start their 2026 non-conference slate this Friday, Feb. 13 with a road series against Southern University.
