Miami Rolls Past Bellarmine in Three Sets

LOUISVILLE, Ky.— The Miami University volleyball team (2-0) defeated Bellarmine (1-1) in three sets to earn its second victory at the Bellarmine Classic on Friday night. Lydia Michelin led all players with a career-high seven blocks, and Gentry Warrick followed closely behind with six blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The RedHawks close out the Bellarmine Classic against Indiana State on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With the score tied at 5-5 in the first set, Molly Creech hit a kill and added a service ace to give the RedHawks an 8-5 lead. Ellie Hanson added a kill and a solo block to remain ahead at 13-10. The Knights remained within three points of the RedHawks at 20-17 before Lauren Coyne ended the set with three kills to give Miami a 25-19 first set win.
- Miami's first five points of the second set came off kills to keep things close at five apiece. A pair of errors from the Knights and a kill from Chelsea Williams helped the RedHawks push ahead 14-10. Shortly after, Williams knocked down back-to-back kills to increase Miami's lead to 17-11. The Red and White managed to hold off Bellarmine to take the second set, 25-21.
- Two early kills from Michelin put Miami up 3-1 at the start of the third set. Halfway through the set, a kill and solo block from Michelin and a kill from Hanson kept Miami ahead 12-11. Creech and Warrick each went on to put down numerous kills to keep Miami in the fight at 19-19. The RedHawks used a flurry of blocks to secure the final set, 25-22. Michelin recorded four block assists at the end of the set to help the RedHawks seal the victory.
- Creech led all players with two service aces and added a team-high eight kills.
- Kamryn Utley led all RedHawks with 16 assists.
- Lindsay Kahren totaled 14 digs to lead the Red and White.
The RedHawks close out the Bellarmine Classic against Indiana State on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m.
