HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holland Van Deusen found Lauren Coyne for a kill down the right side of the court, and Van Deusen went on to serve an ace to earn a 2-0 advantage in the first set. The Rockets fought their way back and claimed a 6-4 lead when Molly Creech smashed a pair of kills to even the score. Trailing 10-8, the RedHawks hit three kills and Lydia Michelin had two blocks to reclaim control of the set at 13-11. The Rockets answered with a run of their own, jumping ahead 18-14. A Kamryn Utley service ace and two kills from Chelsea Williams helped bring Miami within one at 21-20, but the effort fell just short, as Toledo held off Miami to take the set 25-22.
- A Michelin solo block, an Utley service ace, a Creech service ace and a collection of kills from the RedHawks propelled Miami to an 8-3 lead in the beginning of the second set. Two more blocks from the Red and White, as well as two kills from Grace Kreutz, sent Miami into the media break on top 15-9. A fake set that led to a kill from Van Deusen and an attack error from the visitors forced a Toledo timeout at 21-16. The RedHawks' final four points came from kills, two of which Raegan Lantz put down, to secure a 25-19 second-set win.
- Michelin continued to flash on the defensive end, adding another two blocks, and Kreutz added an ace to roll to a 4-1 start in the third set. The Rockets knotted the score at six apiece, and after some back-and-forth action, the score remained even at 12-12. The Rockets managed to find their rhythm, as they forced a Miami timeout at 18-14. A kill from Kreutz made it a three-point set at 19-16, but the RedHawks came no closer, dropping the third set 25-19.
- A pair of errors from Toledo kept Miami within striking distance in the fourth set at 5-4. The Rockets went on to separate from the RedHawks at 13-6 before multiple kills shrunk the gap to 14-10. Down 22-14, the Red and White scored three straight points before Toledo closed out the set with a 25-19 win.
