No. 16 South Carolina Gets Past Miami

COLUMBIA, S.C.— The Miami University soccer team fell to No. 16 South Carolina 2-0 Sunday afternoon. Dominique Popa made six saves for the RedHawks, who are now 1-2-0 on the season. The Gamecocks remain perfect on the year at 4-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The hosts opened the scoring at the 10-minute mark, as Gracie Falla's free kick led Micah Bryant toward the end line on a set play. Bryant then quickly served a ball to the near goalpost that Katie Shea Collins headed home.
- South Carolina made it 2-0 shortly after halftime, as a RedHawk hand ball gave the Gamecocks a penalty kick. Popa got a piece of the ensuing try, but Cuyler Zulauf's attempt was ultimately successful to double the home side's lead in the 47th minute.
- Miami's best scoring chance came in the 79th minute, when a Jyvanna Harris foul gave the RedHawks a free kick near the corner flag; however, the visitors were unable to get on the end of Katie O'Malley's kick and South Carolina took over.
NOTES
- Popa started her 19th consecutive match for the Red and White (dating to last August).
- Popa's six saves were her highest single-match total since Oct. 18, 2024 (seven).
- Morgan Longacre made her first start of the season for Miami.
