RedHawks Drop 5-2 Decision to Ohio

AKRON, Ohio – On Friday afternoon No. 1 Miami University fell to No. 2 Ohio University 5-2 in what was a closely matched pitchers' duel. The RedHawks fall to 32-24 (20-7 MAC) on the season. Ohio moves to 37-17 (18-8 MAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ohio got their first run in the top of the first on a RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats doubled their lead in the top of the third on another RBI double, making it a 2-0 game.
  • Chloe Parks got the RedHawks on the board in the bottom of the third with a RBI triple hit off the center field wall. Danitza Hernandez scored to split the deficit 2-1.
  • Ella Carter followed that up with a RBI single that scored Parks, tying the game up at 2-2.
  • The fourth, fifth, and sixth innings were quiet, impressive pitching and defense shutting down the offense on both sides.
  • Ohio scored two runs in the top of the seventh on a RBI single to take the lead back 4-2.
  • The Bobcats tacked on another run in that same inning on a RBI single, making it a 5-2 game.
  • Ohio held this lead through the end of the game to take the win 5-2.
 
NOTES:
  • Parks went 2-for-4 at the plate. She also hit her 11th career triple, tying her for second in the Miami record book.
  • Madilyn Reeves pitched the complete game on the mound. She struck out nine and gave up just two walks.
  • Five different RedHawks had hits in the game.
