RedHawks Earn MAC Season Accolades

CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Tuesday afternoon the Mid-American Conference announced this year's softball All-MAC Teams and Specialty Award winners. Head Coach Mandy Gardner-Colegate was awarded Co-Coach of the Year, Chloe Parks earned the Nan Harvey Award and was named to First Team All-MAC, Madilyn Reeves was named to First Team All-MAC, Mckenna Campbell was named to Second Team All-MAC, and Shelby Kunkel was named to Second-Team All-MAC. Gardner-Colegate led the RedHawks to incredible success this season, her first as head coach. The RedHawks are currently 31-23 and finished the MAC regular season 20-7. She additionally has coached her team to Miami's sixth-straight regular season MAC Championship and to a No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament.
The Nan Harvey Award is in recognition of her dedication and passion for women's sports and the game of softball were shown through her everyday commitment to excellence. She was a part of the University at Buffalo family for over two decades where she helped shape the women's softball, basketball and volleyball programs. The progression of women's athletics is, no doubt, a tribute to the vision she had. Her hard work and never-give-up attitude for pushing forward were all self-driven and qualities that cannot be taught or coached.
Parks earned the Nan Harvey award, not only because of her stellar academics and plentiful community service involvement, but also because of her resilience and team-first attitude. As a nursing major, she is also very busy, having to complete clinical hours on top of attending other classes, team practices,and games. Though she may have to go right to the field from working 12 clinical hours, she never lets that stop her from being the best student, best athlete, best teammate,and best community member she can be. Parks is active in her community, reading to children at grade schools, volunteering at the Oxfords women's center, volunteering at food pantries in Indianapolis, working at a vaccine clinic for the city of Hamilton, Ohio, helping give vision and hearing tests to children at local grade schools, participating in 4 HOPE teaching, and coaching youth travel teams in Indianapolis, just to name a few.
In MAC play Madilyn Reeves is 12-3 with 14 complete games, 17 appearances, 16 game starts, and 108.1 innings pitched. Her current MAC ERA is 2.78 and her WHIP is 1.33. She has one save. She has 91 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .253. She is currently first in the MAC in innings pitched, batters struck out, batters struck out looking, and wins. In the NCAA in overall stats, she is tied for third in complete games, second in game starts, third in innings pitched, and tied for 18th in strikeouts. In Miami history she is tied for fifth in games started in a single season. As only a sophomore, in Miami history, she ranks ninth in career wins.
Sophomore catcher, Mckenna Campbell, has had a break-out season. This season she has played every inning of every game behind the plate for the RedHawks. In MAC play she leads the RedHawks in putouts with 138 and additionally has 18 assists. She has a .987 fielding percentage. She has proven to be fearsome to baserunners, having caught four MAC baserunners attempting to steal bases, though she has caught a total of 11 overall. She ranks in the top fifty in the country in this stat. She has also proven to be effective offensively, leading the RedHawks in MAC batting average with .408 and OPS with 1.081. In MAC play she has 13 runs, 29 hits, five doubles, three homers, 12 RBI, and a team-leading .606 slugging percentage.
Kunkel leads the RedHawks this season in batting average with a .378, OPS with 1.091., and runs with 50. She additionally has 65 hits, 12 doubles, 9 home runs, and 18 stolen bases. In the Miami record books, she currently ranks seventh in single-season walks with 35 this season and is tied for third in single season RBI with the 38 she has accumulated this season.
