
Reeves, Heal Named Miami Athletes of Week

For their performances last week, Madilyn Reeves and Tom Heal are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of May 5.

Female Winner: Madilyn Reeves
Madilyn Reeves went 3-0 in the circle this week to help power Miami Softball to its sixth consecutive regular-season MAC championship. Reeves totaled 29 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. Against Buffalo on Saturday, she struck out a season-high 11 batters, securing a shutout and allowing just six hits. In her three game appearances against Buffalo (16 total innings), she yielded just three extra-base hits, struck out 19, and allowed only three runs. Reeves, a sophomore from Yorkville, Ill., is a Sport Coaching major in the College of Education, Health and Society.

Male Winner: Tom Heal
Tom Heal took home first place in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase this weekend at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic. Heal produced a new personal-best time of 8:54.77, coming in nearly 15 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. Heal moved into the top 10 in Miami history for the event and is now ranked third in the MAC this season in the steeple. A junior from Somerset, U.K., Heal is a Biology major in the College of Arts and Science.
