Five RedHawks Qualify For NCAA East First Round

OXFORD, Ohio- Five Miami University student-athletes will participate in the East First Round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be held May 28-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. Allie Melchiorre, Ella Rigel, Ella Scally, Adam Smith and Abby Suszek were among the qualifiers announced today.

Melchiorre will compete in the javelin after posting a mark of 45.90m at the MAC Championships on May 15. Rigel, who ranks 17th in the East in the hammer, owns a mark of 62.69m from the Wake Forest Invitational on April 17. Scally's best long jump of the season, a mark of 6.29m at the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 9, ranks her 20th in the East. Suszek, the MAC indoor and outdoor champion in the 400, takes a time of 52.96 from the Billy Hayes Invitational into the postseason. Smith achieved a mark of 55.83m in the discus at the MAC Championships last week.

Rigel and Scally are making their second consecutive appearance in the East First Round, while the other three RedHawks will be competing there for the first time.
