KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— The Miami University softball team fell 17-0 to seventh-seeded Tennessee Friday in the Knoxville Regional opener. Miami falls to 35-25, while the Vols improve to 41-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks made a strong push offensively in the top of the second, as a walk and two singles up the middle loaded the bases with no outs. The Volunteers answered by forcing a strikeout and a double play that sent the game into the bottom of the second.
- Tennessee opened the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to left field, giving the Volunteers a 1-0 advantage. A single and a double resulted in Tennessee extending its lead to 2-0. With runners on second and third, Madilyn Reeves struck out two consecutive batters to end the inning.
- In the bottom of the third inning, a RBI double down the left field line pushed Tennessee's lead to 4-0. The next batter followed this by hitting a home run to right field, bringing in three more runs. With the bases loaded, a hit by pitch and a walk added two more runs. Tennessee ended the offensive barrage with a grand slam to take control of the game at 13-0.
- The Vols added four runs in the fourth for the final tally.

Miami will face North Carolina on Saturday, May 17 in Knoxville. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. in an elimination contest.
