RedHawks Excel in Oliver Nikoloff Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- The Miami outdoor track & field teams traveled to the University of Cincinnati this weekend to compete in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. Four different RedHawk student-athletes brought home first-place finishes.

The RedHawks will travel to Muncie, Ind. next weekend (April 11-12) to compete in the We Fly Challenge at Ball State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the field for the women, Ella Scally finished in first place in the women's long jump event with a season-best distance of 6.10 meters. Elle Miller (5.33 meters), Chloe Rickson (5.23 meters), and Gracie Bower (4.75 meters) also competed in the long jump, finishing in fourth, fifth and 10th place, respectively. Maggie Dougherty finished in second place in the women's javelin throw with 36.67 meters. Allie Melchiorre (34.98 meters) and Caroline Kagy (23.09 meters) took fourth and eighth place, respectively, in the javelin. Mia Boule finished in third place in the women's pole vault event with 3.80 meters. Emily Eterovich also competed in the event, and she finished in fourth place with 3.80 meters. In the women's hammer throw event, Ella Rigel was the highest placing RedHawk, taking fifth place with 54.11 meters. Four RedHawks finished inside the top 10 in the women's discus throw, and Sharron Kagan led the way as she finished in sixth place with 36.45 meters. Kennedy Cunningham (36.36 meters), Kagy (35.63 meters), and Carly Cambria (33.73 meters) rounded out the top 10. In the women's high jump event, Ella Garvin finished in sixth place with 1.67 meters. Abbi Deisch (1.67 meters), Miller (1.62 meters), and Madison Sisler (1.57 meters) also competed in the high jump event, and they finished in seventh, eighth, and 10th place, respectively. In the women's shot put event, Cunningham (11.22 meters) took ninth place and Kagy (10.89) came in 10th.
- In the women's 200-meter dash, Abby Suszek finished in third place with a new personal-best time of 23.68 seconds. Suszek beat her previous PR by less than a second, and she is now in second in Miami history for the outdoor women's 200-meter dash. Riley Betz also ran in the 200-meter dash, and she finished in seventh place with a time of 24.90 seconds. In the women's 100-meter dash, Scally finished in second place with a time of 12.10 seconds. Betz also ran in the 100-meter dash, taking third place (12.10 seconds), while Katelyn Pratt came in 10th (12.82 seconds). In the women's 4x100-relay, the team of Pratt, Rickson, Rachel Smith, and Sophia Scavuzzo finished in fifth place with a time of 49.40 seconds. The team of Betz, Keira McGregor, Scally, and Suszek also ran in the relay, and they finished in sixth place with a time of 54.27 seconds. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Erin Connors finished in fifth place with a new PR time of 1:02.22, almost a tenth of a second faster than her previous best time. Sydney Harmon finished in sixth place in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.34 seconds. Madison Berger also ran in the event, and she finished in ninth place with a time of 15.77 seconds. In the women's 400-meter dash, Smith finished in ninth place with a time of 57.97 seconds. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Smith, Suszek, Eve Traficanti, and Avery Emerson finished in second place with a time of 3:47.38.
- In the women's 1500-meter run, Emerson finished in second place with a new personal-best time of 4:33.22. With this performance, Emerson beat her previous PR by more than 11 seconds. Traficanti also ran in the event, and she finished in third place with a new PR of 4:34.43, nearly eight seconds faster than her previous PR time. Nora Zubillaga finished in fifth place in the women's 800-meter run with a new personal-best time of 2:11.19, over a second faster than her previous record.
- On the field for the men, Andrew Farrow finished in first place in the men's triple jump event with 14.56 meters. Matthew Howard led the RedHawks in the men's javelin throw, as he came in third place with 54.71 meters. CJ Johnson (51.68 meters), Adam Smith (47.90 meters), and Clark Helgason (46.35 meters) also competed in the event, and finished in fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively. Ben Riegel finished in fifth place in the men's hammer throw event with 55.41 meters, while Gabe Asbury took 10th place with 50.43 meters. In the men's discus throw finals, Riegel (46.21 meters), Smith (45.93 meters), and Richard Obioha (45.84 meters) finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively. Henry Hoblitzell finished in fourth place in the men's pole vault event with 4.56 meters. In the men's long jump event, Farrow finished in fifth place with 6.81 meters. Riegel also competed in the men's shot put event, and he finished in eighth place with 15.58 meters.
- In the men's 400-meter dash, Leo Bouldin finished in first place with a personal-best time of 47.24 seconds. With this performance, Bouldin beat his previous PR by less than a second, and he is now ranked eighth in RedHawk history for the 400-meter dash. Micah Schuster also ran in the event, and he finished in third place with a PR time of 47.90 seconds, almost a second faster than his previous record. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Jaxson Tober finished in third place with a personal-best time of 55.53 seconds. In the men's 100-meter dash, Angelo Vassilakis finished in fourth place with a time of 10.77 seconds. Ronald Carridine (10.82 seconds) and Remy Schulz (11.15 seconds) also ran in the event, and they finished in sixth and 10th place, respectively. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Bouldin, Schuster, Dominic Jackson, and Joey Valeski finished in second place with a time of 3:14.20. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Tober finished in fifth place with a time of 15.30 seconds. Carter Herman also ran in the event, and he finished in seventh place with a time of 15.96 seconds. In the men's 200-meter dash, Schulz finished in eighth place with a season-best time of 22.52 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay team of Carridine, Leo Bouldin, Vassilakis, and John Podojil finished in third place with a time of 41.67 seconds. The team of Mitchell Wiemuth, Valeski, JD Leverette, and Schulz also ran in the 4x100-relay, and they finished in fifth place with a time of 43.61 seconds.
- In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Petros Sanchez finished in first place with a time of 9:12.21. In the men's 1500-meter run, Tom Heal finished in third place with a personal-best time of 3:50.09. With this performance, Heal beat his previous PR by nearly a second. Victor Orsinelli also ran in the event, and he finished in ninth place with a new PR time of 3:55.71, beating his previous record by more than two seconds. In the men's 800-meter run, Jackson finished in third place with a time of 1:50.87.
