RedHawks Shine at We Fly Challenge

MUNCIE, Ind.-- The Miami outdoor track & field teams traveled to Ball State University to compete in the We Fly Challenge this weekend. Five different Miami student-athletes brought home first place-finishes this weekend, while six different RedHawks made program history.

The RedHawks travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., next weekend (April 17-18) to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the field for the women, Ella Scally (6.09 meters) took home first place in the women's long jump event, while Chloe Rickson (5.49 meters) and Elle Miller (5.45 meters) finished in fifth and eighth place in the event, respectively. Allie Melchiorre took home first place in the women's javelin throw with 39.07 meters, while Maggie Dougherty (35.75 meters) and Caroline Kagy (27.39 meters) finished in second and ninth place in the event, respectively. Ella Rigel finished in second place in the women's hammer throw event with 54.61 meters. Sharron Kagan also competed in the event, and she finished in sixth place with 44.77 meters. In the women's high jump event, Abbi Deisch (1.65 meters) took home fourth place, while Miller (1.60 meters) and Ella Garvin (1.60 meters) tied for fifth place in the event. In the women's shot put event, Kagy finished in seventh place with 11.71 meters.
- In the women's 400-meter dash, Abby Suszek took home first place in the event with a new outdoor PR time of 53.48 seconds. Suszek now ranks second in program history for the 400-meter dash. Suszek also ran in the women's 200-meter dash, and finished second with a time of 23.83 seconds, while Lucca Agate (24.36 seconds) and Scally (24.71 seconds) finished in fifth and 10th. Agate's time in the 200-meter was a PR, as she beat her previous time by less than a tenth of a second and is now ranked sixth in RedHawk history for the event. In the women's 4x100-relay, the "A" team of Riley Betz, Keira McGregor, Scally, and Suszek finished in second place with a time of 45.97 seconds. With this performance, the group jumps from ninth to fourth all-time in Miami history in the 4x100-relay. In the women's 100-meter dash, Betz finished in fourth place with a new personal-best time of 11.96 seconds, just more than a tenth of a second faster than her previous time. Betz also moves into 10th all-time in RedHawk history for the event. Scally (11.98 seconds), McGregor (11.99 seconds) and Agate (11.99 seconds) also ran in the 100-meter dash, and they finished in fifth and tied for sixth place, respectively. Gretchen Feldkamp finished in eighth place in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.75. Erin Connors (1:04.01) finished in sixth place in the women's 400-meter hurdles, while Madison Berger (1:05.62) took home 10th place in the event. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Berger finished in seventh place with a time of 15.15 seconds.
- On the field for the men, Matthew Howard finished in first place in the men's javelin throw event with 58.59 meters. Clark Helgason also competed in the event, and finished fifth with 48.99 meters. Five different RedHawk student-athletes finished inside the top six in the men's hammer event. Ben Riegel (56.65 meters) took second in the event, while Owen Billeter (51.33 meters), Reilly Worthington (51.27 meters), Blake Presley (50.53 meters), and Gabe Asbury (48.57 meters) finished in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively. In the men's high jump event, Mac Burley finished in second place with 1.85 meters. Adam Smith took home first place in the men's discus throw with 51.69 meters. Billeter (47.63 meters), Asbury (45.36 meters), Richard Obioha (44.70 meters), Worthington (44.23 meters), and Riegel (43.02 meters) also competed in the discus throw event, and they finished in third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively. In the men's shot put throw, Riegel (16.32 meters) came in second place, while Worthington (14.91 meters), Smith (14.83 meters), and Obioha (12.99 meters) finished in third, fourth, and sixth place, respectively. Andrew Farrow finished in fourth place in the men's triple jump event with 12.94 meters. Farrow (6.80 meters) also took home sixth place in the men's long jump event, while Kirk Knecht (6.64 meters) finished in eighth place in the event.
- In the men's 200-meter dash, Leo Bouldin finished in second place with a new personal-best time of 21.15 seconds, just barely beating his previous time. Bouldin also now ranks sixth all-time in program history for the men's 200-meter dash. Micah Schuster also ran in the men's 200-meter dash, and he finished in seventh place with a time of 21.93 seconds. Bouldin also finished in second place in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.78 seconds while Angelo Vassilakis finished in fourth place in the event with a time of 10.94 seconds. In the men's 800-meter run, Jack Fleming finished in fourth place with a time of 1:56.80. Micah Schuster finished in fourth place in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.33 seconds. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Jaxson Tober finished in fourth place with a time of 55.48 seconds. Tober (15.24 seconds) took home sixth place in the men's 110-meter hurdles, while Carter Herman (15.87 seconds) finished in ninth place in the event.
- In the men's 1500-meter run, Weston Naville finished in 10th place with a time of 4:06.70.
