RedHawks Compete in Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--Â The Miami outdoor track & field teams traveled south to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend. Two different Miami student-athletes brought home first place finishes this weekend, and Ella Rigel set a new school record in the hammer throw.

The RedHawks will compete in two different meets next weekend, the Penn Relays (April 24-26) in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Clark Wood Invitational (April 24-25) in Louisville, Ky.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the field for the women, Ella Rigel finished in second place in the women's hammer throw with a new personal-best distance of 62.69 meters. With this performance, Rigel broke her own school record by more than half a meter. In the women's long jump event, Ella Scally (5.93 meters) took home first place, while Elle Miller (5.78 meters) and Chloe Rickson (5.47 meters) finished in third and eighth place, respectively. Miller set a new PR with her performance, and she now ranks seventh all time in Miami history for the event. In the women's pole vault event section B, Grace Hicks finished in third place with a season-best distance of 3.62 meters. Maggie Dougherty (39.12 meters) finished in fifth place in the women's javelin throw, while Allie Melchiorre (38.54 meters) finished in sixth place in the event. In the women's pole vault section A, Emily Eterovich (3.77 meters) finished in seventh place while Mia Boule (3.77 meters) came in 10th. In the women's high jump event, Miller (1.61 meters), Ella Garvin (1.61 meters), and Abbi Deisch (1.56 meters) finished in fourth, fifth, and seventh place, respectively.
- In the women's 400-meter dash, Abby Suszek took home first place with a new personal-best time of 53.01 seconds. Suszek beat her previous outdoor record by nearly half a second and replaces herself as second in RedHawk history for the event. Lucca Agate also ran in the event, and she finished fourth with a new PR time of 54.76 seconds. Suszek also ran in the women's 200-meter dash, and she finished in third place with a time of 23.92 seconds. Â In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the Miami team of Riley Betz, Keira McGregor, Scally, and Suszek finished in second place with a season-best time of 45.88 seconds, replacing themselves at fourth in school history. In the women's 100-meter dash, Betz (11.80 seconds) finished in sixth place, while Ella Scally (11.81 seconds) took seventh. McGregor also ran in the event, and she finished in 11th place with a personal-best time of 11.93 seconds. All three student-athletes now rank among the top 10 in program history. The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished in third place with a time of 3:48.44.
- On the field for the men, Andrew Farrow finished in third place in the men's long jump event with 6.94 meters. Matthew Howard finished in seventh place in the men's javelin throw event with 57.22 meters, while Clark Helgason finished in 10th place with 53.40 meters. Ben Riegel finished in sixth place in the men's shot put event with 16.01 meters. In the men's discus event, Adam Smith finished in ninth place with 51.81 meters. Logan Vowles finished in ninth place in the men's high jump event with 2.01 meters.
- In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the RedHawk men came in second place with a time of 41.72 seconds. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Jaxson Tober finished in fourth place with a time of 14.75 seconds. In the men's 100-meter dash, Rondale Carridine finished in seventh place with a time of 10.71 seconds. Tober also ran in the men's 400-meter hurdles, and he finished in seventh place with a time of 58.91 seconds. Micah Schuster finished in ninth place in the men's 200-meter dash with a new PR time of 21.65 seconds. In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Miami finished in second place with a time of 3:17.99.
- In the men's 3000-meter run, Tom Heal finished in second place with a new personal-best time of 9:01.45. Petros Sanchez also ran in the 3000-meter run and he finished right behind Heal in third place with a new PR time of 9:02.27.
