MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Miami took game one of a three-game series against Central Michigan Thursday, winning 4-1.
Cooper Katskee pitched the full nine innings for the RedHawks, holding the Chippewas to just five hits and a walk while throwing 115 pitches. The RedHawks improve to 20-17 (15-4 MAC) with the win while CMU falls to 15-23 (7-9 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami scored three of their four runs in the first inning. Dillon Baker reached first on an error to lead off the game and advanced to second as Ty Batusich singled. Anthony Zarlingo singled, bringing around the first run of the game. David Novak hit Miami's third single of the inning, doubling the lead to 2-0. Dominic Krupinski walked to load the bases and Ryan Novak capped off the four-hit inning with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
- CMU put two runners on base in the bottom of the third with a walk and a single. Both advanced on a sac bunt and one scored on an RBI groundout to make it 3-1.
- The RedHawks scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Novak singled and advanced on a groundout. He advanced again on a groundout, and a wild pitch allowed him to run home to score.
- Katskee went three up, three down in the bottom of the ninth to hold off the Chippewas and secure a 4-1 RedHawk victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Novak went 2-for-4 with a run.
- Katskee pitched a complete game, giving up just five hits, one walk and one run through 33 batters faced.
UP NEXT: Miami will look to clinch the series victory tomorrow in game two against CMU. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
