
Miami Falls in Close Contest to Kentucky, 4-3

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Miami lost a tight game in Lexington on Tuesday as Kentucky hit a walk-off bunt to win it 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Evan Appelwick led Miami's offense, taking two hits off the Wildcats pitching staff and scoring one run. Ahmad Harajli had a strong outing on the mound for the RedHawk defense, striking out seven batters in 3.2 innings. The RedHawks fall to 19-17 with the defeat while the Wildcats improve to 20-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kentucky took one run from Miami in the top of the first, hitting two doubles to go ahead 1-0 early.
- Charlie Dieruf went three up, three down on the mound for the RedHawks in the bottom of the third.
- Miami's deficit grew to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Kentucky managed two singles and scored on a sac groundout.
- Kentucky took their largest lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth at 3-0, putting a runner on third base with an HBP, a sac bunt and a stolen base and scoring the runner with a sac fly to left field.
- The fun began for the RedHawks in the top of the sixth. Evan Appelwick led off with his second hit of the day, beating out the throw for an infield single. Ty Bausich singled to center field and David Novak took an HBP to juice the bases. Ryan Novak hit into a fielder's choice, sending Appelwick in to score Miami's first run. Up next, Dominic Krupinski singled to center, bringing in Batusich for run number two. With two outs, a wild pitch got away from the catcher and sent Ryan Novak home to tie the game 3-3.
- Ahmad Harajli faced just six batters in the sixth and seventh innings combined. He sent down three of them on strikes.
- Harajli remained dominant on the mound during the eighth, recording a flyout and two strikeouts.
- The RedHawks were held in check in the top of the ninth, striking out on three straight at bats. Kentucky put runners on second and third base in the bottom of the ninth. After two strikeouts thrown by Harajli, Kentucky popped up a bunt, which fell just fair in the infield and allowed Kentucky to score the game-winning run.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Appelwick went 2-for-4 with one run.
- Troy Benko pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two hits and one run.
- Harajli pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three hits, one run and no walks. He struck out seven batters.
