
Miami Takes Game Two Against Rockets 6-5

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami took game two of a three-game series against Toledo Saturday, 6-5. Ryan Novak led the RedHawks in RBIs, hitting a three-run triple in the bottom of the third inning. Miami improves to 7-7 (2-0 MAC) with the victory while Toledo falls to 4-9 (0-2 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Evan Appelwick singled to left field. Dominic Krupinski walked, and a wild pitch advanced both runners. Blake Buzzeo hit a bunt single that drove home Appelwick.
- Toledo tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third when a runner walked, advanced on a failed pickoff and an error, and scored after a sac fly.
- Ryan Novak extended the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third with a triple. Two walks and an HBP for Miami loaded the bases to set up the three-RBI triple.
- Nick Vardavas pitched two strikeouts and a flyout for the RedHawks in the top of the fifth.
- Toledo scored one run on a single after a walk and an HBP in the top of the sixth to make it 4-2.
- Appelwick hit a solo homer to right center in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead to 5-2.
- The Rockets answered with a solo home run in the top of the eighth, making it a 5-3 ballgame.
- Miami added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 6-3 lead. Ryan Novak doubled, and David Novak singled up the middle to add the run.
- Toledo tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer, cutting their deficit to one.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Appelwick went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs.
- Ryan Novak went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
- Vardavas pitched 5.1 innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run. He struck out four batters and was credited with the win.
