KENT, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University softball team completed the weekend sweep over Kent State University with a 14-9 victory. The RedHawks improve to 12-14 on the season (3-0 Mid-American Conference). Kent State drops to 7-19 (0-3 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kaylee Oh scored early in the top of the first on a RBI single from Shelby Kunkel to take a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks.
- In the bottom of the first, a sacrifice fly from the Golden Flashes tied the game at 1-1.
- Kunkel cleared the bases with a RBI double in the top of the second, scoring Oh, Danitza Hernandez, and Mckenna Campbell to grab a 4-1 lead for the Red and White.
- In that same inning, a RBI single from Chloe Parks allowed Kunkel to cross the plate and up the lead to 5-1.
- Ella Carter followed that up with a RBI double to let Parks cross home and extend the difference to 6-1.
- Oh upped the RedHawks' lead to 9-1 in the top of the third with a three-run home run deep over left field. Erin Pinter and Hernandez also scored.
- A RBI double in the bottom of the third scored two runs for Kent State, cutting the deficit to 9-3.
- Two more runs scored for the Golden Flashes in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly and fielder's choice to make it a 9-5 difference.
- Parks scored in the top of the sixth on a RBI single from Carter to push the lead to 10-5.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Kent State scored four runs on a RBI single and RBI double to cut the difference to 10-9.
- Jenna Golembiewski hit a sac fly in the top of the seventh to allow Sydney Gilbert across home, extending the lead to 11-9.
- Parks followed that up with a RBI single that scored Oh, increasing the lead to 12-9.
- Still in that inning, Carter smashed a homer over left field, also scoring Parks, and making it a 14-9 game, which the RedHawks held through the conclusion.
NOTES:
- Parks went 4-for-4 at the plate.
- Carter went 4-for-5 batting, Oh went 2-for-3.
- Kunkel and Carter each had four RBI.
- Eight different RedHawks scored runs.
- Four RedHawks had doubles. Oh and Carter had a double and a homer.
- Madilyn Reeves went five innings in the circle, allowing just six hits.
- Shelbie Krieger and Léa Chevrier each went an inning on the bump. Each allowed only two hits and struck out one apiece.
