RedHawks Fall Short Versus Bulls, 68-54

OXFORD, Ohio – Despite 14 points and 20 rebounds from Amber Tretter, the Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 68-54 decision to the University at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps Miami's (16-9, 8-6 MAC) five-game win streak, while Buffalo improves to 22-4, 11-3 MAC. Joining Tretter in double figures were Enjulina Gonzalez (17 points) and Maya Chandler (10 points). Tretter 's 20 rebounds (12 offensive) are the second-most in Millett Hall and program history.
 
How it Happened:
  • Ilse de Vries converted a reverse layup to open the game, but 20-straight Buffalo points spotted the Bulls a 20-2 lead with 60 seconds left in the quarter. Gonzalez's triple ended the drought to make it 20-5 after 10 minutes of play.
  • Buffalo stretched their advantage to 23-5 early in the second. Chandler drilled a triple before a pair of Buffalo free throws made it 25-8. Chandler and Gonzalez knocked in back-to-back three pointers to make it 25-14 at the media timeout. A pair of free throws from Tretter and a layup from Gonzalez cut the deficit to seven with three minutes to play, but UB answered with five-straight to claim a 12-point lead. Buffalo led 35-25 at the half.
  • Buffalo pushed their advantage to 14 with 5:31 left in the third before a three-point play from Tretter made it 43-32 midway through the quarter. After Miami fell behind 45-32, the RedHawks went on a 6-0 run to trail by seven with 2:20 second remaining. Buffalo beat the buzzer to close out the quarter for a 51-42 lead entering the final stanza.
  • The Bulls jumped on the RedHawks early in the fourth, stretching their lead to 15, 59-44, with 5:30 to play. A triple from Tretter and a layup from Tamar Singer made it a 10-point game with 4:17 to play, but Miami would get no closer.
 
Game Notes:
  • Amber Tretter had her 16th career double-double, finishing with 14 points and 20 rebounds (12 -offensive). Her 20 rebounds are the second-most in program history behind only Mary Kay Reeves, who recorded 23 rebounds back in 1975. It is also the second-most in Millett Hall history.
  • Miami had 20 offensive rebounds, compared to Buffalo's five and the RedHawks forced 22 Buffalo turnovers.
  • In two games versus the Bulls, the RedHawks shot 16-of-70 (22.8%) from long distance.
