
Miami Splits Doubleheader Against ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Miami split a doubleheader with the East Tennessee State Buccaneers on Saturday, taking game one 12-2 in eight innings and falling in game two 2-1 in eight innings. Troy Benko and Cooper Katskee held the Bucs to six hits in game one to earn a win and a save, respectively, and Clayton Burke and Landon Fulk kept up the strong pitching in game two, holding ETSU to five hits and two runs. Miami moves to 3-3 while ETSU moves to 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Anthony Zarlingo singled in the top of the second. Ryan Novak hit a double down the left field line, putting runners at the corners for Miami. Tommy Harrison recorded an RBI with a groundout that scored Zarlingo and put Miami ahead 1-0.
- The Buccaneers led off the first with a single by Cooper Torres, and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed the runner to advance. A triple by Henry Ferguson sent Torres back to home plate and made it a 1-1 ballgame.
- Ty Batusich led off the top of the third with a walk for Miami. Dillon Baker walked, and Dom Krupinski was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with RedHawks.
- Evan Appelwick hit a grand slam, his second home run of the year, to clear the bases and give Miami a 5-1 advantage.
- On the next at bat, David Novak homered to center field to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
- Three straight outs by Benko kept the score at 6-1 through three innings.
- Blake Buzzeo hit a bunt single in the top of the fourth and advanced to third on a single by Batusich. Baker recorded an RBI groundout to make the score 7-1.
- ETSU's Grant Gallagher homered to left center in the bottom of the fifth making the score 7-2.
- Harrison reached first on a fielding error in the top of the sixth, and a sac bunt by Buzzeo advanced Harrison to second. Batusich walked, and Baker homered to left, recording three RBIs and bumping up the lead to 10-2.
- Baker walked in the top of the eighth. Krupinski added the last bit of insurance to Miami's lead, blasting a two-run homer to left center and rounding out a 12-2 score.
- Katskee pitched three straight outs in the bottom of the eighth, including a called strikeout for the final out, to cap off a 12-2 victory for Miami.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (GAME ONE):
- Baker went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs.
- Zarlingo went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
- Benko pitched 5.0 innings in his win, holding the Bucs to five hits and two runs.
- Katskee pitched 3.0 innings, giving up just one hit and recording two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Clayton Burke took the mound for Miami in the first and recorded three straight outs.
- Gallagher led off the top of the third for ETSU with a home run to put the Bucs up 1-0.
- Buzzeo singled in the top of the fifth. He advanced to second on a balk, and a single by Batusich drove him home, tying the game at 1-1.
- Fulk recorded three straight outs in the bottom of the sixth for Miami, including one strikeout.
- Ryan Novak walked in the top of the seventh and a groundout advanced him to second. Justin Gorski walked and Baker took an HBP to load the bases. A strikeout rendered the inning scoreless for the RedHawks.
- The eighth inning marked the start of extra innings for the ballgame. ETSU's Jamie Palmese singled and advanced on a failed pickoff. After an intentional walk, a throwing error loaded the bases. Ferguson hit a walkoff single to score Palmese and finish off a 2-1 ETSU win.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (GAME TWO):
- Batusich went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
- Burke went 5.0 innings on the mound, holding ETSU to three hits and recording three strikeouts.
- Fulk held the Bucs to two hits in 2.2 innings of relief.
