RedHawks Host Bulls for Love.Honor.Care on Saturday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team hosts the University at Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 22 as the RedHawks search for their sixth-straight win. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m.

GOING STREAKING: Enjulina Gonzalez has scored in double figures 19-straight games, dating back to Dec. 1. She has surpassed 20 points seven different times this season, including a season-high 29 points in a win at FIU. The sophomore transfer from Mercer has been named MAC Player of the Week three times and currently ranks third in the MAC in scoring (17.0). Miami is 6-1 this season when she scores 20-plus points.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter has recorded 15 double-doubles in her career, including five this year. On the season she nearly averages a double-double in points (10.5) and rebounds (8.3). She is coming off a 15 point, 11 rebound effort in Miami's win over Akron on Wednesday.

ABOUT BUFFALO: Buffalo is 21-4 this season and 10-3 in MAC play. They are coming off a 76-70 win over Kent State on Wednesday. Buffalo ranks second in the conference in scoring (75.2 ppg.) and are led by Chelia Watson, who is tops in the MAC (20.4 ppg.). The Bulls also lead the conference in free throw attempts per game (20.6) and are second in steals (10.6).

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 52nd meeting between the two schools with Buffalo holding a 30-21 all-time advantage. The Bulls have won 17 of the last 18 meetings and the RedHawks have not downed the Bulls in Millett Hall since Jan. 23, 2016.

ROUND TWO WITH THE BULLS: Miami led for the first 35 minutes of action back on Jan. 18, but a 16-0 Buffalo run to close out the game doomed the RedHawks, 59-51. Enjulina Gonzalez led the way with 16 points and four assists for Miami and Maya Chandler chipped in with 12 points.

NOTES FROM WIN OVER AKRON:
• Miami closed the contest on a 19-6 run to capture a 70-58 win over Akron on Wednesday.
• The RedHawks missed their first nine three pointers of the game, but finished 5-of-11 from long distance.
• Amber Tretter had her fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds and senior Katey Richason had a season high 12 points in the win.
• Enjulina Gonzalez posted 16 points and a career-high five assists, while Maya Chandler was tops on the team with 17 points, connecting on three triples.
• Akron's Shelbee Brown had 20 first-half points and was held to just four free throws in the second half.

WINNING WITH DEFENSE: Miami ranks atop the conference, allowing 56.3 points per game (33rd nationally). The RedHawks have held seven opponents to under 50 points this season.
• Miami ranks 18th nationally, forcing 21.6 turnovers per contest. The RedHawks are 11-3 on the year when they force their opponent into 20-plus turnovers.
• Miami leads the conference with 11.7 steals/game (19th nationally) and features five players ranked in the top-20 in the MAC: Tamar Singer (2.2, 6th), Enjulina Gonzalez (1.7, 11th), Cori Lard (1.6, 12th), Amber Tretter (1.5, 15th) and Maya Chandler (1.4, 18th).

DEFENSE SETTING RECORDS: Miami has a chance to do something never done before on the defensive end. The best defensive effort in a season was all the way back in 1977-78 when Miami allowed 56.9 points/game. This season, the RedHawks are currently allowing 56.3 points/game.

POINTING TO THE PAINT: Back on Jan. 18, Miami dropped a contest to Buffalo, where the RedHawks attempted a season-high 34 triples (made 9) and recorded just 12 points in the paint. Since that contest, the RedHawks have recorded 236 points in the paint (29.5/game) over the past eight contests. Miami has scored at least 28 points in the paint in six of the past eight games.

MAC TOURNAMENT NEARING: If the MAC Tournament started today the RedHawks would be the No. 4 seed in Cleveland. A No. 4 seed would be the highest Miami tournament seed since the RedHawks were the No. 3 seed in the 2018-19 season.

THAT 70'S SHOW: It's not all about defense when it comes to Miami. The RedHawks are a perfect 9-0 this year when they score 70-plus points in a contest. Much of that scoring has come in the first and third quarters. Miami has outscored their opponents 386-321 in the first quarter and 424-341 to begin the second half.

CHASING RECORDS: Miami has already surpassed last season's win total (9-20 last year) and at 8-5 in MAC play, the RedHawks have surpassed last season's conference win total (6-12 last season). The 16 wins this season is the most for a RedHawks' program since the 2018-19 squad won 23 contests. Below is a list of best single-season win totals this century.
