
Chevrier, Roa Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Léa Chevrier and Christopher Roa are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of February 17.

Female Winner: Léa Chevrier
Léa Chevrier earned a pair of wins in the circle for Miami Softball last weekend in South Carolina, posting a 2-1 record in four appearances. Chevrier recorded her first shutout at the Division I level and the RedHawks' first shutout of the season on Sunday in her complete-game appearance against Winthrop. She also threw 5.1 scoreless innings of relief to close out an 11-inning victory over App State Friday. In 19 total innings last week, Chevrier allowed just 18 hits and eight runs (seven earned), posting a 3.32 ERA with 16 strikeouts and 12 walks. Chevrier, a junior from St-Lazare, Quebec, is studying Sport Management in the College of Education, Health and Society.

Male Winner: Christopher Roa
Christopher Roa exploded for five RBI in his first collegiate start Saturday, helping Miami Baseball finish off a doubleheader sweep of The Citadel. Roa went 3-for-4 (.750) over the two games against the Bulldogs, including a triple for his first career extra-base hit, and drove in a total of six runs with a 1.250 slugging percentage. He singled in his first career at-bat in the ninth inning of game one as part of Miami's four-run outburst to come from behind and win. Roa also scored twice in a 16-1 eight-inning victory to wrap up the weekend. He is a freshman Sport Management major in the College of Education, Health and Society from Santo Domingo, Dominican Repulblic.
