OXFORD, Ohio– Peter Suder scored a team-high 15 points, while
Kam Craft and
Evan Ipsaro each added 14 points as the Miami University men's basketball team edged past Ohio 73-69 Saturday evening.
The RedHawks rise to 16-5 (8-1 MAC), while Ohio drops to 11-10 (5-4 MAC). Shereef Mitchell led the Bobcats with 20 points.
How it Happened:
- Ohio began the contest with a few early baskets to jump ahead 7-2. Suder tipped in a shot, and Craft followed this up with a triple to make it a one-possession game. The Bobcats looked to pull away once again at 14-7 before Suder and Craft combined for the next nine points to shrink the gap to just two points at 18-16.
- Trailing 22-18 with just 9:20 left in the first half, Craft put in his second three of the day and added a traditional three-point play the following possession to give Miami a 24-22 advantage. Luke Skaljac buried back-to-back threes to extend Miami's lead to 30-22. Reece Potter added a dunk and sunk a shot from beyond the arc to give the RedHawks a double-digit advantage at 35-24. The Red and White entered the intermission ahead 35-26.
- Antwone Woolfolk scored the first two baskets for Miami coming out of halftime to hold onto a 39-28 lead. Ohio closed the gap to just five points with 13:40 to play. Potter and Suder answered the Bobcats with a pair of deep shots to reclaim a double-digit lead at 50-39. A couple of layups, combined with numerous free throws, kept the RedHawks on top 59-45 with 8:28 remaining.
- An 18-5 run brought Ohio back in the game at 64-63 with 2:43 to play. A tough layup down the right lane from Ipsaro made it 66-63. Eian Elmer brought down a huge defensive rebound and followed it up on the offensive end with a reverse layup to push the score to 68-65 in favor of the RedHawks. The Bobcats used a couple of free throws to make it a one-point game at 70-69 with 10 seconds on the scoreboard. Ohio came no closer, dropping 73-69 to the Red and White.
Game Notes:
- Miami's bench scored 35 points, in comparison to the 13 points scored by Ohio's bench.
- Woolfolk rejected a game-high three blocks.
- Ipsaro led all players with four assists.
