
Ventos, Byers Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Lucia Ventos and Brant Byers are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Nov. 10.

Female Winner: Lucia Ventos
Back Lucia Ventos scored the winning goal for Miami unassisted on Saturday in double-overtime to win the MAC tournament for the eighth consecutive time and punch a ticket to the NCAA tournament. In addition to her game-winning goal, Ventos played stellar defense all tournament, helping hold James Madison to five shots and UMass to 12. She also took two shots on goal against UMass and generated a penalty corner. A junior from Barcelona, Spain, she is studying Emerging Technology in Business and Design in the College of Creative Arts.

Male Winner: Brant Byers
Brant Byers led the RedHawks to a 2-0 week, with victories over Old Dominion (87-72) and Trinity Christian (129-49). Byers averaged 14.5 points (62.5% from the field), 4.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks on the week. He also went 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the free-throw line over the two games. Byers totaled a game-high 18 points, two rebounds and a steal against the Monarchs on Monday. On Friday, he recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, a block and an assist versus the Trolls in just over 18 minutes of action. A redshirt sophomore wing from Chambersburg, Pa., he is studying Small Business Management in the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science.
