RedHawks Edge Past Bowling Green in Five Sets

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (12-13, 6-7 MAC) edged past Bowling Green (13-12, 7-6 MAC) in a five-set match (25-22, 27-29, 25-18, 25-27, 15-13) on Friday night at Millett Hall. Molly Creech led all players with a career-high 24 kills, while Chelsea Williams (17) and Raegan Lantz (14) each added double figures in kills. Defensively, Gentry Warrick put down six blocks, while Lindsay Kahren (18) and Creech (17) led the team in digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Early kills from Creech kept the score tied at 6-6, and the RedHawks capitalized on multiple attack errors to seize a 9-6 lead. Strong kills from Williams and Lantz enabled Miami to hold a 15-12 lead at the media timeout. Creech tallied two more kills to force a Falcons timeout at 19-15. With a slim 21-20 edge, Warrick and Creech delivered the final four points for the RedHawks, lifting Miami to a 25-22 first-set win.
- Bowling Green grabbed a 10-7 advantage after the beginning of the set saw close play. A service ace from Kamryn Utley brought Miami back within one point at 11-10 before the Falcons responded by jumping ahead 15-12. The rest of the set saw back-and-forth action until Bowling Green took a two-point lead at 23-21. A service error by the Falcons and two kills from the RedHawks once again knotted the score at 24-24. Despite the strong effort, the Red and White fell 29-27 in the second set.
- The RedHawks opened the third set with a 3-2 lead after Lauren Coyne knocked down a kill and the RedHawks recorded a couple of blocks. Miami stretched its lead to 12-8 thanks to a collection of kills from Lantz and Creech. The Falcons closed within three at 15-12 but came no closer, as a service ace from Lindy Radaszewski, a kill from Coyne and a Falcon attack error gave Miami a 25-18 third-set win.
- Williams launched the fourth set with two kills, sparking a 5-1 Miami lead. Lantz fueled the offense with two kills, and Coyne contributed a solo block to maintain a 10-6 advantage. Bowling Green evened the score at 13-13, then pushed ahead 21-19 before Miami's block and Williams' pair of kills made it 22-22. A powerful block from Warrick electrified the crowd for a 23-22 lead, but Bowling Green sealed a 27-25 fourth-set win.
- Radaszewski, Williams and Creech each recorded a kill at the start of the fifth set to push the RedHawks to a 6-4 lead. The Falcons took their first lead of the set at 7-6 before Creech and Radaszewski combined for a trio of kills to even things up at 10-10. Trailing 13-10, the RedHawks went on a 5-0 run, powered by two kills from Lantz, which secured a 15-13 Miami victory.
- With this victory, the RedHawks snap a 12-match losing streak to Bowling Green.
- Utley and Hicks combined for 60 assists on the night.
- Kahren (18), Creech (17), McClure (10) and Williams (10) had double-digit digs.
