OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (9-8, 3-2 MAC) dropped a three-set match (22-25, 15-25, 16-25) to Ball State (9-8, 5-0 MAC) on Tuesday night at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks and Cardinals opened the first set with close play. The RedHawks used a pair of kills to come within one at 9-8, but Ball State began to pull away at 17-11. A collection of kills and a Kamryn Utley service ace forced a Ball State timeout at 20-16. Back-to-back attack errors from the Cardinals brought Miami within striking distance at 24-22. Ball State finished the set out with a 25-22 victory.
- Miami started the second set with a 2-0 advantage after Gentry Warrick and Lauren Coyne combined for a block. Although Ball State went on to take a 5-3 lead, Miami quickly evened the score at five apiece with a solo block from Lydia Michelin. The Cardinals built an 18-7 lead when Hanson sparked a 4-0 run with two kills, putting the score at 18-11. Ball State refused to let the RedHawks close the gap and finished the set with a 25-15 win.
- Ball State jumped out to an 8-3 lead at the beginning of the third set. Miami answered as Lindy Radaszewski and Warrick combined for the RedHawks' next five points, narrowing the gap to 9-8. After an attack error from the Cardinals and a kill by Molly Creech, Miami remained in the fight at 16-12. However, Ball State ultimately fended off the RedHawks, taking the third set 25-16.
NOTES:
- Hayden Hicks reached 2,000 career assists.
- Creech led the RedHawks with 17 digs.
