The Miami University football team puts its four-game win streak on the line Saturday, Oct. 25 versus Western Michigan. Opening kick is slated for 3:30 p.m. and is Miami's annual Family Weekend/Cancer Awareness game.
About Miami
• Miami football ranks first all-time in the Mid-American Conference in wins (737), conference wins (326), MAC Championships (17) and bowl wins (9).  Historically, Miami's 737 career wins are third all-time among Group-of-Five programs, behind just Navy (752) and Army (742).
• Miami was 4-14 in Coach Martin's first 18 Mid-American Conference games. Since then, the RedHawks are 52-19 in their last 71 games versus schools from the MAC, the best in the conference during that span.
• The RedHawks have now won 10-straight MAC regular season contests, dating back to Oct. 12, 2024 and are 19-2 in their last 21 MAC games.
• Miami has competed in five straight bowl games and has been bowl-eligible in eight of the past nine seasons. The RedHawks are coming off a 43-17 win over Colorado State in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl last season.
• Since Oct. 15, 2016, Miami has lost back-to-back conference games just twice in that span (2017, 2022). Miami is 16-3 following a conference loss, dating back to midway through the 2016 campaign.
About Chuck Martin
• Chuck Martin was named Miami head coach on Dec. 3, 2013.
• He was named a 2023 Finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award after an 11-3 season.
• Not only was he 74-7 in six years at Grand Valley State (2004-09), he has coached in seven national championship games in the past 22 seasons. Â
• Martin has an all-time head coaching record of 143-77.
• He is 69-70 all-time at Miami (54-33 in MAC play) and has won more games at Miami than any other coach. The previous high was held by Randy Walker (60 wins).
• Martin is the longest tenured active coach in the MAC.
• He has twice been named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Coach of the Year and has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball.
• Martin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 23, 2015.
About Western Michigan
WMU is 4-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play and enters Yager Stadium on a four-game win streak with wins over Toledo (14-13), Rhode Island (47-14), UMass (21-3) and Ball State (42-0). The Broncos are led by quarterback Broc Lowry, who has thrown for 952 yards and five touchdowns this season. Defensively WMU is second in the conference, allowing 17.0 points per contest.
Series History Versus The Broncos
The RedHawks lead the all-time series 38-24-1 and are 22-10-1 at home versus WMU. The Broncos won eight-straight meetings from 2006-2022, before Miami captured a victory back in 2023.
Last Meeting With The Broncos
Brett Gabbert threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns and added a career-best two rushing scores as Miami captured its sixth-straight win (34-21) back on Oct. 14, 2023.Â
Wear Your Emotions on Your Helmet
In a tradition that started back in 2018, the Miami University football team will be carrying a special message with them as they take the field on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Miami's annual Cancer Awareness contest versus Western Michigan. Each player's helmet features a colored ribbon of their choice to symbolize how they have been affected by cancer.
Overall, 30 players selected pink to signify those affected by breast cancer, while 20 chose blue (colon/esophageal/ovarian/cervical/thyroid/prostate cancer). Other colors include: six green (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma/gallbladder/liver, four orange (kidney cancer and leukemia), six yellow (bladder cancer, sarcoma/bone cancer), three black (melanoma), three gray, three red (blood cancers/head and neck), three white (lung/Retinoblastoma/waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia/mesothelioma) and two purple (bladder/pancreatic/testicular). Three players had no preference.
EMU Â Recap
Miami rushed for 295 yards and held the Eagles to 60 yards on the ground in a 44-30 RedHawk victory last Saturday. Dequan Finn totaled four touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) as the RedHawks captured their fourth-straight victory.
Going Streaking
Last Saturday was Miami's fourth straight win, the third straight season they have posted a win steak of at least four games. In 2023 the RedHawks won six straight and last year Miami rolled off seven-straight wins to advance to the MAC Championship game.
Martin Moving Up
The win over EMU moved head coach Chuck Martin into a tie for fourth in MAC history with 54 career conference wins. He is tied with Bob Pruett (Marshall).
Bruising Brunson
Jordan Brunson's career-high 122 rushing yards versus the Eagles came on a career-high 23 carries; his previous career high was 20 at Northern Illinois earlier this month. Brunson has 62 carries for 267 yards over the past three games. He had just 12 carries for 38 yards in his first four games of 2025.
What A Rush
Miami finished with 295 yards on the ground last Saturday, the most for the RedHawks since rolling up 466 on Sept. 23, 2023 against Delaware State. Saturday's ball-control offense for the Red and White recorded the most third-down conversions (11) and time of possession (42:09) in the Martin era, including a monster 20-play drive, capped by a three-yard touchdown reception by Josh Ringer, the first TD of his career.
Special, Special Teams
Miami is one of two schools (James Madison) this season to record a kick return for a touchdown and block multiple punts. In fact, Miami is the only school in the country to have a special teams unit that has scored via the kick return (100-yards by Keith Reynolds vs. UNLV), punt block (Jermaine Agee 8-yard return vs. Lindenwood) and safety (blocked punt by Agee through the back of the end zone).
Lights, 'Kam'era, Action
Kam Perry currently averages 28.6 yards per reception, which ranks first in the country. After posting just 10 catches for 166 yards last season, the junior has already recorded three 100-yard games this season. He had 108 yards at Rutgers, 122 versus UNLV and 122 against Lindenwood.
Magic Trick
Adam Trick currently ranks 16th nationally with 5.5 sacks and has already surpassed his career best (4.5), set last season. He posted 2.0 sacks at Wisconsin and recorded sacks in three-straight games versus Lindenwood (1.0), NIU (1.0) and Akron (1.5). Trick is one of 11 RedHawks to post a sack this season. Combined, Miami has recorded 22 sacks, which ranks 10th in the country.
Been Here Before
The 0-3 start for the RedHawks was nothing new. Mostly due to an extremely tough non-conference schedule, Miami has started nine of the past 11 seasons (not including 2020 when Miami only played three games) with a 1-3 record (or worse). Below is a break down of starts and finishes for Miami football over recent years.
Year     Start   Finish
2025Â Â Â Â Â 0-3Â Â Â Â 4-0
2024Â Â Â Â Â 1-4Â Â Â Â 8-1
2023Â Â Â Â Â 3-1Â Â Â Â 8-2
2022Â Â Â Â Â 2-2Â Â Â Â 4-5
2021Â Â Â Â Â 1-3Â Â Â Â 6-3
2019Â Â Â Â Â 1-3Â Â Â Â 7-3
2018Â Â Â Â Â 1-3Â Â Â Â 6-3
2017Â Â Â Â Â 2-5Â Â Â Â 3-2
2016Â Â Â Â Â 0-6Â Â Â Â 6-1
Totals   11-30   52-20
The Book of Eli
Eli Blakey has a 216 tackles in his career, tops on the team. Last season he posted a career-high 89 tackles and currently leads the squad with 18 stops this season.
Finn To Win
While Dequan Finn has made just six career starts as a member of the RedHawks, the seventh-year quarterback does not lack experience.
• Throughout his career he has thrown for 8,387 yards and 72 touchdown passes in 54 career games.
• He has added 2,239 rushing yards and 30 scores on the ground.Â
• Most of that damage came during his time at Toledo. In 45 career games with the Rockets, Finn threw for 7,074 yards and 63 scores, while adding 1,840 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground.Â
• He earned first-team All-MAC and was the MAC Player of the Year in 2023 and is the only player in Toledo football history to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in multiple seasons (2021, 2022, 2023).
• Finn's 102 career total touchdowns (72 passing, 30 rushing) ranks second among active players in the NCAA and ranks 82nd in NCAA history.
New-Look Offensive LineÂ
Miami's OL lost one player to the transfer portal, while four others graduated following the 2024 season. In all, those five players started a combined 166 career games for the RedHawks. Miami's 2025 offensive line will have a much different feel. Eric Smith, Kris Manu, Austin Uke and Greg Smith Jr. all made their first collegiate start in the season opener at Wisconsin, while Drew Terrill started his second career game. In all, Miami's offensive line has started a combined 36 games.
