Miami Falls in Three-Set Match to Kent State

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (10-11, 4-5 MAC) fell in a three-set match (19-25, 24-26, 22-25) against Kent State (8-12, 3-6 MAC) on Friday night at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kent State led 3-1 early before Lauren Coyne delivered three straight kills, giving the RedHawks a 4-3 lead. Kent State then pulled ahead 11-5 and maintained a strong lead until Chelsea Williams and Molly Creech's kills narrowed the gap to 19-16. The Golden Flashes took the first set, 25-19.
 - Kent State carried its momentum into the second set, taking a 12-4 lead. Coyne's trio of kills and a block by Creech and Raegan Lantz pulled the RedHawks within striking distance at 13-9. After Kent State stretched the lead to 19-11, errors and RedHawk kills brought Miami back into the fight at 22-19. Down 24-19, Miami scored five straight to tie at 24-24, but Kent State secured the set 26-24.
 - The RedHawks started strong in the third set with seven kills, leading 7-4. The Golden Flashes responded, going up 15-9. Williams' kills kept Miami close at 18-14, and a 6-0 run led by Creech pushed them ahead 20-19. Kent State rallied to win the set 25-22.
 
NOTES:
- Lindsay Kahren led all players with 15 digs.
 - Coyne led the RedHawks with 13 kills.
 
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks continue conference play with a pair of matches at Toledo on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.
