RedHawks Beat Indiana 3-2 to Earn 500th All-Time Program Win

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami Field Hockey earned its 500th program win Monday, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers 3-2 after a late goal from freshman Malena Sabez. Miami moves to 9-4 with the victory while Indiana falls to 5-7 with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami fired off three shots and a penalty corner in the first period, but Indiana kept the score level at 0-0.
- Indiana put together six shots in the second period, including two on penalty corners, but goalkeeper Nicky Sjouken and the Miami defense fended the Hoosiers to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
- Justina Intzes put Miami on the board three minutes into the third period, scoring off an assist from Bet Gifra to make it 1-0 Miami.
- Indiana answered two minutes later, finding the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
- Berta Mata reclaimed the RedHawk lead, scoring unassisted for her fifth goal of the season.
- With 15 seconds left in the period, the Hoosiers scored a goal to tie the game at 2-2.
- Miami played an aggressive fourth quarter, racking up eight shots and six penalty corners before taking the lead on a penalty corner goal from Sabez with less than three minutes to play. Kylie Coughlin inserted the ball and Berta Mata set up the shot to cap off a 3-2 victory.

- The RedHawks took 14 total shots and put 10 on goal.
- Miami generated eight penalty corners and held the Hoosiers to three.
- Intzes went 1-for-4 with two shots on goal.
- Mata went 1-for-1 with an assist.
- Sabez took seven total shots, putting five shots on goal and scoring one goal.
